Punters enjoyed perfect conditions at Warwick RSL Long Tan Cup
SUN hats were a must at Saturday's Warwick RSL Memorial Club Long Tan Cup as the heat bore down on punters eager to see who would take out the prized trophy.
Leprechaun Lad proved to be the best in the pack on the day, winning the race by a length.
Ridden by Fiona Jervis and trained by Kelvin Hickmott, the horse completed the 1500m race with a time of 1:29.74.
Coming in second was Storm Magic, who also beat third place winner Red Bohemia by a length.
There were five races on the day at Allman Park.
Warwick Turf Club president Phil Grant was pleased with the level of competition on the day.
"It's a nice day, the track seems to be racing well,” he said.
Usually held as an Anzac Day event, the Long Tan Cup was postponed this year due to rain.
Saturday's meet still ran as originally planned, as a collaboration between Warwick Turf Club and Warwick RSL Memorial Club.
"We've always had a partnership and we hope to grow it in the next few years,” Grant said.
"We work together to make it as big of a day for them as it is for us.”
Warwick RSL Memorial Club board president Geraldine O'Neill thoroughly enjoyed the day and is pleased to support a local group.
"We like to sponsor events in our community and this event with Warwick Turf Club is one of them,” she said.
