PUP soldiers queue to go into battle

CLIVE Palmer is sifting through a mounting list of nominations to hand pick his candidates for the upcoming Queensland Election.

While the outspoken Member for Fairfax vowed to announce his Kawana candidate to go head-to-head with Jarrod Bleijie by the end of January, the party leader remains tight lipped.

A "high-profile Sunshine Coast identity" was promised as the Palmer United Party candidate for Kawana, at a press conference in mid-January.

However, a PUP spokesman said with the inundation of nominations for Queensland seats since applications closed last weekend, PUP staff was going through the pool of candidates.

Possible candidates have put their hand up in the Sunshine Coast seats of Noosa, Kawana, Glass House, Caloundra and Maroochydore.

"The candidate for the seat of Kawana is still being considered as the calibre of the candidates has been so outstanding," the spokesman said.

The PUP is running on a platform of repealing every piece of legislation introduced by the Liberal National party premier, Campbell Newman, since his term began in 2012.

PUP was formed in mid-2013 and attracted 11% of the primary vote in Queensland in the Federal Election, with Palmer winning the Sunshine Coast seat of Fairfax.

The party spokesman could not confirm when the Sunshine Coast candidates would be announced, but promised PUP was "preparing for battle".

Clive Palmer has been busy in Tasmania throughout the past few weeks pitching his candidates in their state election.

Mr Palmer believes, through internal polling, the PUP is tipped to win Tasmanian Government on March 15.
