Push to jump on Jamie's food train

WARWICK could become a stop for Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food mobile food bus but councillors say they are more interested in the opportunity to supply the program with local produce and promoting the region.

The mobile kitchen would travel to regional areas and offer classes in cooking and nutrition to 240 people at a cost of $50 each - with total expense of $12,000 for council.

The concept went before the Community Services meeting yesterday, with Cr Vic Pennisi suggesting the Southern Downs should make the most if it.

"I am happy to support this but there is more of an opportunity than just getting the cooking lessons," Cr Pennisi said.

"Everything they need and they use can be provided to them from this region."

Cr Peter Blundell questioned the return on having cooking lessons for 240 people but liked the idea of supplying the program.

"That is what council should be concentrating on," he said.

The council will investigate possible funding options for the $12,000 price tag and the potential to supply the program with local produce.
