Putting in Christmas work to dazzle the Warwick crowds

"IT ALL starts with a string of lights.”

If you have been Christmas light hunting during December, chances are you have seen the annual spectacular display of Jamie Taylor.

Featuring an awe-inspiring colour scheme, an incredible synchronisation of music and a large amount of manned hours, there is a reason why it is regarded as one of the best in town.

This year marks a decade of Mr Taylor's displays in Warwick, and he said it started with a humble string.

"After the first year, I saw others on the internet with synchronised music, and brought a few things,” Mr Taylor said.

"This will now be the ninth year with the sync display.”

Despite the amount of hard work and effort that goes into the display, Mr Taylor said it was worth the effort.

"It takes about five weeks of work to set it up and test, when doing a little bit each day,” he said.

"At the moment it takes about 15 hours to work on each song, but it gets quicker each year.

"It started with 32 separate channels controlling the lights, now there is over 5000.

"When they're up we like to sit outside on the lawn and welcome people who visit.

"There are people who have come each year, and we've been able to see their kids grow up.

"It gives us a chance to do our bit for the community.”

Mr Taylor said he tried to make time to ensure he can have them up each year.

"I usually have some time off in December to set them up,” he said.

"I can appreciate the effort people go to, and there are a lot of good ones in town.

"We like to have a look at the other displays.

"Some people enjoy them, and use their kids as an excuse to come and see them.

"Some use the lights as bribery for their kids, and the chance to see them as a reward.

"It's a fun time of the year.”

Jamie Taylor's impressive display took out honours in the Warwick Daily News Christmas Lights competition. To enter this year's competition, check out today's Daily News.
