Qld killer of seven-week-old girl to be sentenced today

A QUEENSLAND father of two who fatally bashed his seven-week-old daughter - crushing her skull - then refused to take the screaming child to hospital for 10 days will be sentenced today.

Rick Cataldo, of Brisbane, inflicted severe head injuries on baby Lily Rain Cataldo in April 2012 then told the child's mother not to take her to hospital. She died nine days later.

Cataldo, 29, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and is due to be sentenced by Justice Debra Mullins today.

His lawyer Craig Eberhardt told the court last week that Cataldo felt "genuinely guilty and ashamed" of the behaviour that led to the death of daughter, who was just 57 days old.
