Queen to reign over rodeo

TAMMIE Conroy can't remember when she first rode a horse but won't forget the next two weeks in her role as Warwick Rodeo Queen.

Ms Conroy, a full-time student at the University of Queensland Gatton campus, was crowned queen on Saturday night at the Douglas Feez Pavilion.

"It is pretty exciting but hasn't really sunk in," she said.

"When I see the crown, it reminds me of the night."

Ms Conroy doesn't remember her first ride on a horse, she was that young.

"I just remember riding and was mustering sheep as soon as I was old enough to sit on a horse at the age of three at Karara," she said.

Judging was on Saturday morning with horsemanship and ridden pattern before the six queen entrants were interviewed by the judges just after lunch.

On the night, she was interviewed on stage by MC David McIvor.

Ms Conroy was sponsored by Lazy WM Stud from Kundabung in New South Wales.

She currently lives at Regency Downs near Gatton and is studying a bachelor degree in equine science at the University of Queensland Gatton campus.

Earlier this year, she received her associate degree in equine studies.

"My partner Phil Henderson and I own a horse breaking and training business and plan to expand the business when we both finish our full-time studies," she said.

Ms Conroy doesn't remember missing a Warwick Rodeo.

"When I was little, I remember Mum and Dad taking me in for at least one night," she said.

She reckons this rodeo will be her most exciting.

"It will be very busy but an awesome experience. In the lead-up we go to the aged persons homes and schools which is very enjoyable.

"To see the faces brighten up is exciting."

She is also looking forward to the grand entry and street procession.
