Family hit by second house fire in four months

A FAMILY of seven had a lucky escape last night after their Redlands home was destroyed by fire.

It is understood this is the second time in four months a home the family had been living in burnt down.

Police said the low-set house on McMillan Rd in Alexandra Hills became fully engulfed in flames about 11.30pm.

"Two adults and five children managed to self-evacuate from the property to safety, however the adults were taken to hospital for observation," police said in a statement.

Channel 9 were reporting one of the children were in a wheelchair.

Neighbours told the Today show people could be heard "screaming" for help.

"Let me out! Let me out! Help me!" one neighbour said she heard somebody screaming from the home.

A crime scene has been established while investigators work to determine the cause of the blaze.
