Public servants brace for change from overhaul

QUEENSLAND'S top bureaucrats have been warned to expect changes thanks to an overhaul of government departments to accommodate Annastacia Palaszczuk's new Cabinet.

The Courier-Mail understands Ms Palaszczuk's director-general Dave Stewart emailed senior public servants last week advising them changes were afoot.

Seven departments will be renamed in the overhaul, two new departments established and three abolished, according to government changes gazetted on Friday.

One director-general, Frankie Carroll, has already elected to depart the public service following the overhaul.

It is understood Mr Carroll - who had been serving as Deputy Premier Jackie Trad's top bureaucrat - was offered the Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning director-general's job before announcing he would leave.

Another director-general, Paul Simshauser, announced his departure during the election campaign, while Environment director-general Jim Reeves is retiring.

National Parks, Sport and Racing director-general Tamara O'Shea is also rumoured to be retiring next year.
