Quest for glory in A-grade cricket final
CRICKET: Rosewool Redbacks captain Tyhe Clarkson has a simple answer to the question of which team will win the Condamine Cup in today's A-grade grand final at Slade Park at 10am.
"The team that fields the best will win the game,” Clark-son said.
"If we take every catch that is offered and restrict runs in the field, we should win,” he said.
"Coen Slatter and Justin Wheeler are two of our best fielders. Daniel Bowles and Ben Heppell are our keepers and both also bowl so we may change keepers during the game.”
As for the opposition, Clark-son is wary of the class of Maryvale batsmen Andrew Ryan and Jason Steketee.
"We need to get them both early,” he said.
"Team spirit was high at Tuesday training and we have also had a 45-minute fielding session.”
Maryvale Condamine captain Paul Bourke isn't worried about the pressure of his team being unbeaten all season.
"We will play it as it comes,” he said.
"Redbacks are a quality team, there is not a lot between all the A-grade teams,” he said.
"Everyone batted well at practice on Wednesday night.”
If Maryvale is chasing a large total, Paul doesn't plan to change his batting order much.
"Andrew Ryan is at the top of the order and is an attacking batsman but I would look to Dave Walker and Tom Bourke for quick runs if needed,” he said. "Kev Bourke bowls slow medium pacers which do a bit off the pitch and is likely to be used in the middle overs of the innings.
While Redbacks may change their wicketkeeper during the innings, Pat Bourke will wear the big gloves for Maryvale throughout the Redbacks innings.
Presentations of all trophies will follow the grand finals.
