Quiet dance festival

THE lights were dimmed and music turned down as the clocked ticked over to 10pm on Saturday night at Bestbrook Mountain Resort.

Manifest - a 72-hour dance festival - ditched its all-night music program in order to adhere to a court order instigated by council, handed to it last week.

Bestbrook employee Dennis Brown said the guidelines set down by the Southern Downs Regional Council were followed and it went smoothly.

"It's not a problem," Mr Brown said.

"We acted within the confines with what was laid down and finished at 10pm with any music."

Cr Neil Meiklejohn visited the event during the day and said he was happy with how it was run although he couldn't comment on the evening.

"I saw lots of portable toilets and things were fairly well laid out," he said.

"I didn't see anything I was overly concerned about council-wise."

With a large number of acts originally scheduled to perform throughout the evening, many artists were dropped from the program.

"The local artists especially missed out but the international people from the USA, England and Sweden still went ahead," Mr Brown said.

"But the people all took it in their stride because they want to support the people putting on the event and they want it to it be a legal event."

Warwick police said they didn't receive any noise complaints about the festival on Friday or Saturday night.

Mr Brown said he was confident the organisers of the event would hold it again despite the restrictions this year.

"It went from 700 people last year to 1200 people this year and everyone was having a good time," he said.
