Quilt raffle provides an extra special layer of comfort
WARWICK Safe Haven will have $300 extra to help its clients this Christmas, after a donation from the Warwick Artists Group.
The group donates money to a charity of their choice annually with Warwick Safe Haven - an organisation that provides safe short-term accommodation for women and children from across Queensland escaping domestic violence - the lucky beneficiary this year.
Warwick Artists Group president Gayle Pershouse said the money was donated after a raffle of a quilt.
"Our textilers annually make a quilt and we usually donate some of the proceeds to a charity. This year it was Warwick Safe Haven," Ms Pershouse said.
"We try to support charity as much as possible, and domestic violence is an issue, so we thought it was a great cause to support.
"We're drawing the raffle and 20% of the proceeds will go to Warwick Safe Haven, which means $300 will be donated."
Ms Pershouse said she was a big fan of the work done in the community by Warwick Safe Haven.
"I think it's great that people have somewhere to go if they need to," she said.
"I believe they've done a fantastic job."
Warwick Safe Haven secretary Jenny Eldridge said the donation would be of great benefit to the organisation.
"We're really grateful to the Warwick Artists Group for their support," Mrs Eldridge said.
"Our focus is on the Warwick and Stanthorpe areas and it's lovely they're supporting us.
"We've been running our services since 2010 and sadly, there is an ongoing need for our services.
"This money will certainly help us."
The lucky winner of the raffle, who will take home the beautiful quilt, was Jorja Hill.
