Race record falls

CASSANDRA Heaslip broke a record by 90 seconds in an outstanding performance at The Scots PGC College Inter-clan Cross Country Championships this week.

Heaslip is a boarder from Yelarbon and first made a Darling Downs team in cross country in Year 7.

She has also excelled in orienteering and won a bronze medal in the 14/15 years age group last year as part of the Queensland School Championships winning Darling Downs team.

In the 16 years age group at the school cross country, Heaslip ran 17 minutes, 19 seconds. The previous record was 18:49.

Heaslip will now compete in the Darling Downs championships on May 29 in Toowoomba. The state championships are on July 22-23 in Maroochydore.

Scots PGC spokesman Andy McGregor-Lowndes said Heaslip was an outstanding sportswoman who was strong at athletics, cross country, orienteering and equestrian.

"She won a Pierre de Coubertin Award in 2011," he said.

She won the Glenbrae Cup for senior champion. Nick Hall won the Estwick Cup for senior boys. Jack Wild and Sarah Ogden won junior championships.
