Thousands of racegoers attend Allman Park for Boxing Day
WARWICK has turned up the heat for the Boxing Day races, with thousands of racegoers packing into Allman Park for the annual trackside event.
Despite a forecast storm and sweltering heat, large crowds swelled as the afternoon drew on.
Warwick Turf Club president Phil Grant said there was a definite increase in punter numbers.
"It was a really good day - we definitely think crowds were up," he said.
"There were no dramas and the rain held out until around 8pm when the last of the racegoers went home."
The race day caps off a successful year for the Warwick Turf Club.
Mr Grant said all of the big races this year were great successes.
"I think our last few big races have grown in popularity," he said.
"We've come forward in leaps and bounds - now we're just hoping nothing too drastic changes with Queensland Racing."
The next race day will be the Tradies Race Day on January 30.
The Turf Club will also try a new concept next year, with St Mary's sponsoring a TAB race meet in February.
