President delighted with field for Credit Union Cup Day
RACING: Phil Grant is upbeat about the hopes for a record Warwick Credit Union Warwick Cup day after 19 nominations were received for the Cup.
Nominations closed yesterday but have been extended for three races.
There are 110 nominations so far for seven races.
"I am really happy with the 19 nominations, it is more than most years," Grant, the club president said.
"As it is a TAB meeting on Saturday, we are allowed 14 starters in each race."
He expected most of the nominations to be acceptances as $20,000 prizemoney is a major attraction.
There is $12,500 for first, $4000 for second and $2000 for third.
One of the starters is Billy Goat who has two wins and a second in his past 10 starts, including a Dalby Cup win.
There are three horses with local connections: Achievements, trained by Les Clarke at Allman Park; Tigerish, from the Len Bryant stable in Warwick; and Secret Garden, trained by Paul Nolan jnr.
Nolan grew up at Massie and loves nothing better than winning a race at Allman Park.
