Rain likely after glorious weekend

TODAY is likely to be the wettest day on the Southern Downs this week with showers and thunderstorms expected.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Ben Annells said the BOM didn't expect heavy falls.

"The light to moderate falls will be in the afternoon and evening," Mr Annells said.

"We will then expect cooler conditions for the rest of the week.

"The winds will change to the south-west Monday with east to south-east winds then developing."

While the Darling Downs looked dry yesterday, there was rain in the western and southern interior.

"Quilpie recorded 8mm late last week and Charleville 2mm to 9am Sunday," Mr Annells said.

He said after today, the rain in Queensland would be showers on the coast and some storms in the west on Thursday and Friday.

"At this early stage, we don't expect those storms to move to the east," Mr Annells said.

The Easter weekend temperatures were between three and five degrees above average.

"Sunday wasn't as warm after Friday and Saturday and was just above average," he said.
