Rains bring cool change

A WET and rainy weekend has ended the Easter holiday period as kids headed back to school yesterday morning.

Meteorologist Michael Paech said an upper trough moved through the area combined with north easterly winds delivering a surface trough late Sunday afternoon to bring some welcome rain to the area.

Warwick received 13mm of rain overnight while Applethorpe had 29mm, with the rain easing yesterday afternoon.

But the wet weather won't be around for much longer with a change in air mass and the arrival of much cooler temperatures.

Mr Paech said the area can expect much cooler and drier weather, with overnight temperatures dropping quite significantly.

He said there is the potential to see the first frosts of winter with the cool change this week, especially around the Granite Belt.

The change brings with it fine and sunny weather expected for the rest of the week as we head into winter.
