Rally legends host dinner
TWO of the legends of Australian rally driving will bring back many memories at the Australian Guns of Gravel dinner at the City Golf Club, Toowoomba, on February 7.
Event co-organiser Jamie Lawson was in Warwick this week to promote the dinner.
Five-times Australian rally champion Ross Dunkerton and former international rally driver Allan Lawson will be the guest speakers and Jamie the MC.
Allan founded the Great Endeavour Rally to raise funds for the Darling Downs branch of the Endeavour Foundation in 1988 and was the road boss until his son Jamie took over in 1998.
Dunkerton was well known for his quick and flamboyant driving style in a career which started in Western Australia before he moved to Malaysia. He now lives in Cairns and will also be promoting his latest book during the trip to Toowoomba.
Allan competed in East Africa, Noumea, Australia and other countries and was an ideas man who helped put the sport in Australia on the world stage.
The night is sponsored by Central Queensland Petroleum and will support the Downs Motorsport Club and the Endeavour Foundation.
It will be a "get in, sit down, shut up and hang on" three-course dinner.
