Rats coach succeeds in first season with open footy
COACH'S CORNER
LAUREN Quinlan is in her first season of senior coaching in rugby union with the Warwick Water Rats women.
She steered the side to a minor premiership win and they now have to beat Dalby early on grand final day on September 2 to qualify for the grand final against Bears.
The Scots PGC PE teacher has coached rugby at the college for the past three years.
She coached Emily Bass who has gone on to play for an Australian youth team. The Water Rats women have a squad of 19 in the inaugural year of Downs women's sevens rugby.
Quinlan writes about her philosophy as a coach:
"You can only get the best out of your team if they commit to each other and enjoy their footy.
"It has absolutely been great to coach the Water Rats women.
"I have enjoyed it and learnt a lot.
"I don't have a manager so have relied on the whole team to help out.
"We are a pretty tight-knit group of girls but the club has been supportive.
"Fridge and Vlad (the Savovski brothers) have made sure we don't miss out on any support we need.
"There has been fitness work for those who can make it on a Tuesday night to Risdon Oval but our main training night is each Thursday.”
