Rats rebuilding
A SECOND rower with coaching experience at Nudgee College will be at the helm of a Warwick Water Rats C-grade side keen to win the club's first premiership for almost two decades.
Warwick withdrew from A-grade late last year and plans to rebuild in a lower grade this season.
Dave Young coached under-16 B and C teams at Nudgee before moving south and coaching Warwick State High School to victory in the Southern Downs Sevens last season.
Young won't be carrying all the responsibility this season.
Former Colleges (Gold Coast) A-grade halfback Rob Enright will have responsibility for specialist training for the backline.
Young has earmarked Alex Costello and Matt Wheatley to be joint vice captains and hopes to build on their experience in Warwick A grade.
"We had 18 at training on Thursday, including a fair few players from last year," Young said.
"The plan is to stick to one night of training a week, which is a lot easier for players with work commitments."
Warwick will play against Beaudesert, Kyogle and Toowoomba Bears in a round-robin on March 17 from 3pm at Beaudesert.
