Rats relish night game against the Bears
RUGBY UNION: For only the second time in their 54-year history, the Warwick Water Rats will play Friday night footy tonight at Risdon Oval.
The Rats will be bolstered by the return of key players.
Club captain Jared Fearby and English import Joseph Levick are both returning from stints on the sideline.
Fearby, a flanker who has made a new home in the centres, said he was raring to play a Friday night game.
"I'm pretty fresh and excited to play a Friday night game against the Bears,” he said.
"I'm hoping there's a big crowd to get behind the Rats and help propel us up the ladder.”
Fearby was quietly confident about notching another win against the Toowoomba side, which the Rats defeated 41-19 in round two of this season.
"I don't like to get too excited but I do believe we've got the team to do it,” he said
"We've got a few boys away but a few back so we should go well against them.”
One returning is halfback Levick and Fearby was glad to see him return.
"It will be good to have Joe back because he adds a bit of experience behind the ruck and has a good pass on him as well which gives the forwards a chance to stand a bit wider and deeper,” he said.
"He's played a lot of footy and should slot back in nicely this week.”
Levick, who was a mainstay last season but hasn't had a lot of game time this year reckoned the conditions at Risdon Oval, which some say is the coldest place in Warwick, should suit him perfectly.
"Tonight's game should be very similar to English weather so I'll feel right at home,” he said
"I know these conditions well and hopefully that experience will help me guide the team around the paddock.
"The dewy surface at Risdon Oval will make territory kicking crucial and knowing the right time to kick should put a lot of pressure on their backline, giving us a chance to secure possession high up the field on the back of our strong scrum and lineout.”
Kick-off is at 7pm tonight.
