Rats scoreless in a costly first half
THE Warwick Water Rats went down to the Condamine Cods 42-12 in a home game at Risdon Oval on Saturday.
A poor first half cost the Water Rats, who conceded more than 30 points and scored none before hitting back in the second half.
Water Rats coach John O'Leary said the poor first half cost his side.
"We've got to make a commitment to start well," O'Leary said.
"If we hadn't given them that kind of start it could have been a different game."
O'Leary said he was proud of his team for the way they responded in the second half.
"Our captain Craig Pettiford gave a strong speech at half-time and spoke about doing the things that we've worked on at training," he said.
"For the want of a better word, we beat them in the second half.
"I was quite concerned at half-time but the players never fail to impress me with their commitment and courage."
