Newbie hopes to win Rodeo Queen Quest

FIRST-time competitor Tamara Evans is ready to take the crown in this year's Rodeo Queen Quest.

Hailing from Nerangbah, the 21 year old said she had a lifetime love of rodeo and was excited to compete.

"I've always loved rodeo and I have been competing in the last few years," Ms Evans said.

"Every year at the Warwick Rodeo I've competed in the ladies steer ride and the barrel racing.

"I've always seen the queen riding in carrying the flags and wanted to be a part of it - I'm honoured to even be considered."

Ms Evans said she was thrilled to be part of the iconic event with a talented cohort.

"I'm competing with such intelligent, beautiful girls who have definitely made it a difficult competition," she said.

"It's a challenge the keeps you going and thinking and it's wonderful to be a part of a fantastic group."

When she's not out riding, Ms Evans works as an allied health assistant in community-based rehabilitation.

"I see clients after they've come out of hospital with issues such as strokes to knee or hip issues," she said.

"Definitely working with a huge variety of patients - young, old and disabled - helps me with communicating with lots of different people."

As part of fundraising efforts for the Queen Quest, Ms Evans will host a ute show at the Warwick Showgrounds this Saturday, with an iron man challenge and raffles to be won.

Utes will be judged in six categories - best hunting, 4x4, feral, BNS, chicks, and street ute.

General admission is a gold coin donation, and ute entries are $10 for the first category and $5 for any additional categories, with gates opening at 9am for judging at 11am.
