Rebecca thirsty to help good cause
SHE loves to party with a bottle of Ricadonna in hand, but this Allora party animal has given it all up for those who don't have the choice.
For the last three weeks Rebecca Bolzan has been running on empty as she participates in the Dry July challenge to raise money for adults living with cancer. Rebecca told the Daily News everyone knew her as a "party rat".
"This is the first time in seven years I have gone longer than a week without drinking," she said.
"Weekends have been the hardest - it's a mind-over-matter thing."
While it's been a challenging experience for Rebecca, there's a real sense of purpose behind her month of sobriety.
"I was inspired to do this because my best friend's mum passed away three years ago," she said.
"People who get diagnosed with cancer don't have the choice to stop drinking."
So far Rebecca's big dry has raised $2000 for her chosen charity, the Cancer Council of Queensland, making her the fifth-highest fundraiser in the state.
Despite the big task of staying sober, Rebecca still knows how to go out and have fun with her friends.
"My friends are calling me the designated dry-ver," she said. "It's funny just being an onlooker sober - you pick up on some funny things you don't see."
