Record prize money on offer for race on Boxing Day
RACING: Connections will walk away with $30,000 from the Magic Millions Country Cup at the Boxing Day race meeting at Allman Park.
Warwick Turf Club committee member and racehorse trainer Len Bryant said there was $30,000 on offer for the country cup and another $20,000 if the winner has been sold through a Magic Millions sale.
"There will be $19,200 for the winner and then there is the $20,000 bonus,” Bryant said.
"With the bonus, this race has the most prize money I can remember at Allman Park.”
The winner of the country cup race in Warwick, if sold at a Magic Millions sale, will qualify for the Magic Millions Country Cup during the Magic Millions race meeting at the Gold Coast in January.
Bryant said there were generally good nominations for Boxing Day race meetings.
"As it is a TAB 2 meeting, there will be $7150 for the winner of each race other than the Country Cup qualifier,” he said.
"There will be a minimum of seven races, eight if there are enough nominations, to split a race.”
Warwick trainer Garry Schwenke is one local trainer eyeing off the richest race of the day.
"The country cup race will be right up the alley of Sorority Sister. Boxing Day is always a great day for the club and town,” he said.
Five-year-old mare Sorority Sister won a $30,000 race on Coffs Harbour Cup day on Friday, one of four wins under the training of Schwenke, who took over the horse a year ago. She has won in the past year at Gold Coast, Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast and Coffs Harbour and recorded a second at Doomben.
