Redbacks face fired-up Tigers
THE Redbacks will play host today to the Toowoomba Tigers.
The game will be played at Slade Park and commence at 2:30pm.
The Tigers are the reigning champions of the AFL Darling Downs and are coming off a refreshing break, this in comparison to the hard, physical game played by the Redbacks last weekend must be to their advantage.
The Tigers will also have a lot of passion in their game as the club senior coach Andrew Farr has yet again incurred the wrath of the judiciary and copped himself a seven-week suspension, for bringing the game into disrepute.
The players will be out to give Farr something to smile about.
It is thought that long-time Tigers retired player and current Crows U/18’s coach John Wilson will take the reigns for the remainder of the season, but at this point this remains as pure conjecture.
A fairly long list of outs for the Redbacks will need to be overcome also. Beginning with Bryce Bodsworth, internal injuries (season), Cameron Scutts, ribs (4-5 weeks), Aaron Lawlor, suspension (1 week), Clinton McErvale, Andrew Politch and Josh Andrews (work commitments).
Inclusions for consideration will be Stewart Day, Steve Martin, Dennis Ganly, Dave Cross, Kris Millard, Dale Randall, Dave Walker and Paul Hutchins.
With Nathien Richards playing extremely well in the last line of defence and the inclusion of Kris Millard into the back six, Coach Peter Millard has the opportunity to place a tall and skilful Steve Martin on the half-forward line.
Martin has safe hands and is a long kick and will be well served in the crumbing department with Kurt Heier, Coen Slatter and Matt Sinkins pouncing on anything that goes near them.
The Toowoomba Tigers are a slick unit and the events of the past week surrounding their coach will only fire them to bigger and better things.
The game is being played for the bragging rights to second place on the ladder and will virtually guarantee September action for the victor.
This game has a lot to offer the spectator and if played in the right spirit will be a great game of football.
A full on family day of football is offered up by the Redbacks with the action kicking off at 8:30am with the U/8 -10’s. Followed by each of the junior age group teams, leading up to the seniors.
Full canteen facilities are available and a great day is provided.
