Redbacks fade in third quarter

A SEVEN-goal-to-one third quarter cost the Redbacks an important win against Coolaroo at Gold Park on Saturday.

All other quarters were neck-and-neck, and the Redbacks were superior all over the paddock except where it counted – on the scoreboard.

The final tally read Coolaroo 13.18 (96) to Redbacks 10.6 (66), the third-quarter lapse proving fatal.

The upside to the result was that a completely under-manned Redbacks unit put it right up to one of the big guns of the competition and played the game out to the final minute.

One man down and three players hobbling before the game even started was not a good sign, indicating a likely total massacre.

But a well-coached performance by Peter Millard and an honest dip by the wounded warriors has shown that the Reddies’ season has not come to a halt.

Goal scorers: P Hutchins, N Donges 3, D Walker, A Chandler, Kurt and Kris Millard 1 each. Best: P Hutchins, C Slatter, A Chandler, Kurt Millard, B Iles and N Donges.
