Redbacks hunt AFLDD title starting Saturday
AUSSIE RULES: After dominating the division 2 competition in the AFL Darling Downs competition this season, the Warwick Redbacks go into Saturday's major semi-final against Dalby Swans as favourites.
Warwick only won by one point last Saturday against lowly Lockyer Valley, which was a wake-up call for the team.
This Saturday they have a chance to book the first spot in the September 9 grand final at Rockville Oval with a victory .
A loss will put Warwick into the preliminary final at Rockville Oval on September 2 against the winner of the minor semi between Chinchilla and Highfields.
Captain Adrian Bardsley said he was pretty confident the Redbacks could do the job against Dalby.
"I don't expect any more than four goals between the two teams,” Bardsley said.
"Other than Tony Chandler who has work commitments, most of the other players are available.
"We had seven out last Saturday and played against the best side Lockyer Valley has fielded all season.
"Alex Cutmore and Kai Best were two of our best against Lockyer Valley and will be key players in the semi-final.”
The semi will be played over four 25-minute quarters.
Bardsley said the Redbacks were desperate to win the premiership and go up to division 1 next year.
"If we go up to division 1, we would expect some of our past players now playing division 1 with other clubs to return,” Bardsley said.
Warwick had 17 at training on Tuesday night, evidence that training attendance will have a bearing on team selections. The Redbacks semi is at 2pm Saturday at Rockville Oval.
