Redbacks player off to the MCG
WARWICK Redbacks player Shane Walker will fulfil a dream to play Aussie Rules at the MCG during the Inclusion Games next month.
Shane played junior Aussie Rules in Hamilton before playing reserves for the Coleraine and Branxholme clubs in the Western districts of Victoria.
Three years ago, he moved with his family to Warwick and joined the Redbacks.
Shane works at Peter Stewart Automotive detailing cars each Monday and at WIRAC gym each Wednesday.
The Inclusion Games are for players with a disability but that hasn't stopped him forge a career with the Redbacks.
He played in the second-division team last year when Warwick won the first-division premiership and is up to the firsts this season.
Shane has been a goal scorer for the Redbacks playing up front and has also played in defence.
His mother Judy Walker said the club had been great supporters of Shane's career.
"Keith and Karen Clarke have been fantastic to Shane, they take him to training and games and took us to Beenleigh on Sunday when he was presented with his Queensland jersey at a game," he said.
"He couldn't get to the Redbacks club rooms fast enough on Sunday night to show off his Queensland jersey to his team-mates."
Shane and his parents, Judy and Robin, will fly to Melbourne on Tuesday next week for two interstate games each day starting Wednesday.
Games will be play at Whitten Oval, Preston City Oval, North Port Oval, Punt Rd Oval and then a game at halftime in the game between Collingwood and Carlton at the MCG on Saturday.
He will play interstate games against South Australia, New South Wales, two Victorian sides, Tasmania and Western Australia.
Walker is set to play for the Redbacks in the home game against Goondiwindi on Saturday before his trip to Melbourne.
