Redbacks relying on Slatter and Heppell for runs
CRICKET: The Rosewool Redbacks have a three-week plan to win their first A-grade premiership in Condamine Cup cricket.
The third-placed Redbacks play fourth-placed Warwick Hotel Colts in the minor semi this Saturday at Queens Park at 12.30pm and must win to stay alive in the competition.
"We will be without left-arm spinner Justin Wheeler for the next fortnight due to work commitments but he will be available for the grand final if we qualify,” captain Tyhe Clarkson said.
"The key is Coen Slatter scoring some runs for us at the top of the order. Ben Heppell scored 40 in the Davis Shield final so hopefully brings that form into our semi as well,” Clarkson said.
"James Kurtz has been in good form with the bat since Christmas. If we can dismiss Lachlan Gross early, we will have a great chance of victory.”
In the major semi-final, minor premiers Maryvale Condamine play Wheatvale at Slade Park this Saturday.
In the reserve-grade semi, fifth-placed Allora play sixth-placed Sovereign on Sunday at Slade Park with the winner to go to the March 17 grand final and the loser to play Railway Hotel Rascals in the preliminary final on March 10.
There is no provision for replays in semi or preliminary finals if rain intervenes so the higher of the teams on the points table will qualify for grand finals.
Mitchell Shield
THERE are no changes to the Warwick Mitchell Shield team to play Lockyer in the final at Mulgowie on Sunday. Lockyer beat Warwick in the rounds so are favourites.
Warwick team: Jason Steketee (captain), Carter Bilbrough, Tom Bourke, Michael Bourke, Pat Bourke, Will Gordon, Jacob Gross, Lachlan Gross, Mitch Darton, Andrew McConnell, Jack Breen.
