Warwick Redbacks U16s show fight in final loss
THE Redbacks under-16s lost out to the Dalby Swans in Saturday's elimination finals, but certainly did not lose any supporters.
The highly fancied Dalby Swans had a struggle on their hands that they were not expecting. The scores were level at quarter time and by half-time the Reddies had a one goal lead over the favourites. Going into the final stanza the Swans had an eight-point lead.
The Redbacks were outscored by one goal in the final quarter, but walked off the paddock with heads held high knowing they have never shirked an issue all season.
The final scoreboard read Dalby 8:12 (60) defeated Warwick 6:10 (46). Normally playing at full forward, Jack Fletcher spent most of his game in the ruck and worked tirelessly.
Shane Iles, Carter Bilborough, Simeon Burrill and Glen Roulston were dominant in their positional play and Anthony Hansen and Jacob Meiklejohn were valuable players.
Coach Brendan Walker is proud of how the lads have handled their 2014 season and is certain that with the same commitment to training and their desire to win they will rattle some cages in 2015. Club congratulations to the coaching staff, support staff and all at the club that have stuck by the guys through thick and thin this season.
Goal scorers: Anthony Hansen 2, Braeden Mann, Jack Fletcher, Patrick Gainey and Max Tait 1 each.
Best players: Shane Iles, Carter Bilborough, Simeon Burrill, Glen Roulston, Anthony Hansen and Jack Fletcher.
