Redbacks spin numbers for Saturday home game
AUSSIE RULES: Warwick needs to beat Chinchilla in AFL Darling Downs fixtures at Warwick Credit Union Oval at 2.30pm Saturday to ensure it stays in the top four.
Currently, Warwick is equal fourth with a Coolaroo team which has a relatively easy game against Highfields.
Warwick Redbacks president Ben Lubben expects a solid win against the win-less Chinchilla.
"Numbers have been increasing at training during the season but we haven't had all players available all season,” he said.
"Training numbers are certainly better than at the same time last year.”
When asked to name the three most consistent players this season, Lubben came up with Andrew Bardsley, Kris Millard and Tyhe Clarkson.
Shannon Cameron has predominately played in the forward line this season.
"Every now and then, I rotate through the ruck,” he said.
"We have been a bit hot and cold in our performances and have struggled with some injuries.
"The Redbacks are playing good passages of Aussie rules against the benchmark teams but have been struggling to put four good quarters together.
"Our losses to the top sides have been from one or two bad quarters.”
Cameron said he loved the chance to play in combination with Brendan Iles and Ben Heppell.
"I just know where they are going to be on the field and they know where I am going to be.
"I would rather deliver to the full forward rather than aiming for the goals myself,” he said.
"I tend to set up the defensive pressure in the forward line as most of my footy life has been in the backline.”
He is confident the Redbacks could make the top four on their current form.
"We can beat the top sides and are hoping to do that in the second half of the season if we can string four quarters of good footy together consistently,” he said.
"The club has a great list but we need to get our best on the paddock each week. Some of our rookies have been really confident on the ball this season.”
Darling Downs fixtures are played in four 25-minute quarters with no time off with injury.
Teams change ends each quarter. Free admission.
The Redbacks are now playing in a newly designed jersey.
The men's game will start at 2.30pm Saturday, Warwick juniors have a bye.
Order of top teams: 1 USQ, 2 South Toowoomba, 3 South Burnett, 4 Warwick, 5 Coolaroo.
