Redbacks star as Country wins the double

REDBACKS players shone as part of two winning Country teams against City in Darling Downs AFL on Saturday at Kingaroy.

In the men's game, Country won 24.18 (162) to 4.10 (34).

The winning Country team included six Warwick Redbacks: captain Brendan Iles, Thye Clarkson, Alex Cutmore, Coen Slatter, Tim Tate and Kurt Heier.

Iles said he was surprised by the scoreline.

"It is a great opportunity to play for Country and an honour to lead a talented bunch of players onto the field," he said.

"We had plenty of leaders in the team so it made my job easy. The speed of the game was a lot faster than club footy.

"All of the Warwick six played well.

"Thye Clarkson was strong on the wing.

"With the scoreline, one hopes the Downs selection chances of the Country players will be boosted."

The Country team was from Warwick, Goondiwindi, Highfields, Kingaroy, Lockyer Valley, Chinchilla and Dalby. The City side was made up of club players from Toowoomba.

In the inaugural women's Aussie rules representative game, Country scored a convincing win against City.

Redbacks pair Cassie Cullen and Kaitlin Harrison were part of the winning team.
