Redbacks storm home in final quarter of semi
AUSSIE RULES: The Warwick Redbacks qualified for the 2017 division 2 Darling Downs final after a 10.9. (69) to 6.11. (47) victory against Dalby in the major semi final on Saturday.
The final score might indicate a convincing win but that was not the case for most of the game.
Warwick trailed by three points at quarter time and one at halftime before taking a three-point lead at the end of the third quarter.
Any coach at the helm of a team which wins the last quarter 20-1 would be proud of the work ethic and fitness of his team.
Coach Peter Millard has been totally focused all season on steering his team into the grand final and then winning the division 2 premiership to make sure Warwick returns to division 1 next season.
The Redbacks now have a weekend off before the grand final in a fortnight in Toowoomba.
Warwick won the division 1 premiership in 2014 so the club now has the chance to win a second premiership in four years.
The Redbacks had some players out for the semi and Millard is certain to use attendance and commitment at training in the next fortnight to determine his 22 for grand-final day.
Warwick had 22 players for the game on Saturday while Dalby fielded 19.
In the minor semi final, Highfields 12.14. (86) defeated Chinchilla 2.6. (18). Dalby will play Highfields at 1.30pm Saturday at Rockville in the division 2 preliminary final.
Warwick fans can already start preparing for the trip to Toowoomba on September 9, the grand final is set down for 1.30pm at Rockville Oval.
