Reddies thrash Tigers

WARWICK Credit Union Redbacks coach Jason Wright gave every player a task to perform at the weekend and asked them all to dig deep.

Every player listened, obeyed and systematically carved up a shell-shocked, undefeated dual premiership Toowoomba Tigers in a 14.8.(92) victory against 7.7.(49).

From the opening bounce to the final siren, the Reddies stamped their authority on the game and refused to let up at any stage.

Alex Cutmore, in the ruck, just gets better with every outing and totally dominated his taller opponent from start to finish.

Clinton McErvale's day in the centre was made a lot easier due to Cutmore's work and made the centre square his own turf.

Brendan Iles, Thye Clarkson, Andrew Bardsley and Tony Chandler completely controlled their respective opponents and created attack after attack.

The biggest job for the day was to cut down the Tigers leading goal scorer Josh Andrews. This job was given to Shannon Cameron and he dominated the fullback position with ease.

Missing more than half of last season's grand final line-up and playing a full-strength Tigers combination was of no consequence to Wright or his charges.

When the game became spiteful in the final term due to Toowoomba's frustration, the Reddies put their heads down and went about playing the game of football.

This victory was as sweet as it was satisfying.

AFL DD has a competition bye this weekend. The WCU Redbacks will travel to Gold Park, Toowoomba, to play arch-rivals Coolaroo in a fortnight.

Training will be as usual and all players seeking selection will need to attend.
