Refugee Week film night explores ‘boat peoples’ achievements

THE stories of asylum seekers will be brought to the big screen in Warwick tomorrow night as part of Refugee Week.

The newly formed Southern Downs Refugee and Migrant Network are hosting a movie night at the School of Total Education.

Freedom Stories explores the achievements of 'boat people' who arrived from the Middle East more than a decade ago.

SDRAMN community engagement leader Sue Hamlet said she was looking forward to engaging with migrants, refugees and broader community.

"During Refugee Week, we encourage Southern Downs locals to reflect on the influence of migrants to Australian society, and to be aware of research that affirms the value of refugees as highly positive contributors to the rich tapestry of Australian life," she said.

Entry is $15 for adults, concession $10 or $50 for a family.

Tickets are available at headspace Warwick, Ray White Real Estate or online at www.eventbrite.com.au/e/freedom-stories-film-night-tickets
