Region braces for a soggy week
CHRIS Burt doesn't like hot summers. He reckons it is easier to warm up in winter.
"You can find shade, air-conditioning and a fan in summer to cool off but I prefer the winters," he said.
This week he might need an umbrella for protection against rain, rather than sun, based on the latest forecasts.
Girlfriend Alison Goddard also prefers winters but will be moving to an even hotter climate early next year when she starts her first year as a teacher at Jandowae.
As for the chances of a wet summer, Mr Burt isn't sure as less rain was received in November than predicted.
If heavy rain does move in, Ms Goddard reckons the area would be better prepared for flooding than a year ago.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster John Gardner said precipitation was likely to increase as the week progressed.
"We are predicting showers late Monday to come into the Darling Downs and Granite Belt," Mr Gardner said.
"There will be rain areas and thunderstorms on Tuesday with moderate to locally heavy falls up to 50mm.
"On Wednesday, the thunderstorms will be more general in most parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt with only patchy rain and isolated showers in the south-east corner of the area.
"Isolated showers are forecast on Thursday with an odd isolated shower on Friday."

Today: Cloudy and cool, rain areas developing from the northwest, 13-21.
Tomorrow: Cloudy, patchy rain areas, thunderstorms, 15-17.
Wednesday: Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms, 15-16.
