Region in for a wet weekend

HEAVY cloud converged yesterday, signalling that the Southern Downs will be in for a wet weekend.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms were forecasted for the Southern Downs and Granite Belt yesterday afternoon and evening.

However at 4.20pm it was upgraded to a severe weather warning that would continue until this morning.

Spokesman for the Bureau of Meteorology Pradeep Singh said the region should expect a wet weekend.

"Rainfall will probably be between 40mm and 50mm for the area and there is the possibility of flash-flooding in hard-hit and low-lying areas," Mr Singh said.

"Saturday afternoon and Sunday will ease to a few showers in the afternoons and it should start to clear on Monday.

"Things will start to ease after that but won't totally clear with lots of moisture, and then showers and storms predicted for the second half of next week."

Weekend temperatures are expected to range from 17-25 degrees.
