Regionals on for 13-19 years athletics this week in Warwick

ATHLETICS: The best 400 athletes from Darling Downs schools will be at Hamilton Oval in Warwick this week for the annual Darling Downs Regional Track and Field Championships for 13-19 years.

All the track action will be Thursday from 100m to 5000m distances.

Field events will be on Friday and Warwick State High School student Justyn Rogers is ranked No1 in 17-19 years high jump. Spectators welcome.

Rogers jumped 1.90m to win the Warwick All Schools event this season before clearing what would have been a record height of 1.97m only to clip the bar with his ankle.

The Darling Downs record was set at 1.97m by Rodney Franks in 1987.

The only events not in Warwick are the hammer throw which was held late yesterday at O'Quinn St Oval in Toowoomba.

Darling Downs regional school sports officer Wayne Beeston said hammer was held separately to the main 13-19 years carnival for safety reasons.

Medals

THE regional 10-12 years championships were on Tuesday in Toowoomba with Texas student Braithen Scott the champion boy of the carnival with five wins and two thirds.
