Relief from summer heat in sight at last
AFTER sweltering through a hot week, Southern Downs residents can expect some relief from the high temperatures this weekend.
Weatherzone meteorologist Tristan Meyers said the Rose City had experienced temperatures that hovered around 35 degrees.
Mr Meyers said Stanthorpe had similar weather, with only one to two degrees difference due to the elevation difference.
Residents can expect another hot day today, with the maximum temperature for Warwick expected to reach about 31 degrees.
Mr Meyers said residents were in for some relief late in the day.
"The region can expect some showers, thunderstorms and rain late Friday afternoon, around that 4-6pm mark," he said.
"The day will start off sunny and will cloud over with the change in wind direction.
"This will drop the temperature.
"Residents should feel some cooling with the maximum expected to be low-to-mid 30s."
Saturday is expected to see showers initially, which will clear through the afternoon.
"The maximum is expected to be around 25 degrees or so," Mr Meyers said.
"A high pressure ridge will build on Sunday leading to mostly sunny conditions with a maximum of 27 degrees."
Mr Meyers said next week will warm up again, but will lack the intensity of this week's heat.
"It will warm up again early next week to around the mid 30s, but is not looking as hot as this week has been," he said.
