Sick of potholes? The council has an app for that
THERE is an app for almost everything and now that list even includes fixing a pothole.
AG Licensing owner Andrew Gale is urging others across the region to download the My SDRC app, which allows users to report issues they notice across the region, access council news and keep update on road closures.
Mr Gale has been using the app for a few months and said he was pleased to see prompt responses to every issue he had raised with the council.
"I have probably put in 20 requests and everything has been rectified," he said.
"One night I was coming out of a meeting and noticed the gutter was broken so I took a photo of it and opened the app, put the photo though and explained it was broken," he said.
"That was Saturday night and by Monday or Tuesday next week the council guys were there fixing it.
Mr Gale said his job made him aware of issues like pot holes and damaged kerbs and he hoped others would become more in tune with their surroundings and report problems.
"Instead of complaining about things or just putting up with it, it is very simple to download the app on your phone - whether it is iOS or android - and let them know," he said.
"It isn't falling on deaf ears and I am very, very impressed with the way council is dealing with this and seeking our input.
"We should all take these things seriously; we all use the roads and footpaths and it is better to bring it to their attention and have them targeting a response than ignore it." Southern Downs Regional Council CEO David Keenan is also encouraging people to download the app - which he believes is being underutilised by Southern Downs residents.
"It's a much quicker way of making contact with the council," he said.
"We can really act quickly on things through the app."
In February just nine people used the app compared to almost 2000 clogging the phone lines, but Mr Keenan is determined to get that number up to more than 1000 users.
"We would welcome photos of graffiti and potholes," he said.
"We would also love to get more feedback on the app."
The app is available for both Android and Apple users and is free from the Play Store and App Store.
