Reports of year’s first real frost
WARWICK reportedly had its first general frost on Saturday as residents started stoking their fires and talking about the winter chill.
Sladevale farmer Michael Kavanagh said there was a frost on the Campbell's Gully flat in late April but not on the higher land.
"It is always said to expect a frost on or near Anzac Day," Mr Kavanagh said.
The temperature fell to 0.6 degrees in Warwick yesterday morning. It was 1 degree at Oakey and Texas and 2 degrees at Stanthorpe.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Vino Anand said the temperature was low enough for frosts.
"You need clear skies and temperatures below 3 to 4 degrees for some frosts," he said.
Mr Anand said he didn't expect much change today.
"It could be a touch cooler," he said.
"It will then warm up to 7 or 8 degrees on Wednesday due to increasing cloud cover and the possibility of some rain areas," Mr Anand said.
"The rain will clear Thursday."
Mr Anand said light winds were expected early in the week.
"We have a high pressure system over northern New South Wales which is bringing moderate south-west winds," he said.
The average minimum for the Southern Downs for this time of year is 6 to 7 degrees.
