Burglar drove stolen escape vehicle at police at Yeppoon

UPDATE 5PM: THE alleged offender from Monday night's shooting at Yeppoon has been remanded in custody.

Clinton Trevor Hale, 35, made no application for bail in Rockhampton Magistrates Court this afternoon.

He will appear in court at 2pm on June 26, 2014.

11.20am: QUEENSLAND police have confirmed officers shot at a vehicle last night during an incident at Yeppoon.

A press release issued by the Queensland Police Service stated officers from the Ethical Standards Command are investigating the incident.

Initial investigations indicate that patrolling officers observed the blue light of an alarm system at a business premises at Tanby Road had been activated around 11.50pm. When officers investigated the alarm a male person drove a vehicle at an officer.

The officer discharged his firearm striking the vehicle. No one was struck by the projectile.

The vehicle became snagged after driving through fencing and rolled. The driver sustained soft tissue injuries from the crash and was treated at Rockhampton Hospital.

The driver is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

10.30am: New reports suggest police were the ones that fired shots during an incident at Yeppoon last night.

It is believed the shots were fired as police interrupted a burglary.

It is also believed the burglar had stolen their escape vehicle earlier in the evening.

9.10am: THERE are reports of a shooting in Yeppoon overnight.

A Burnett Street resident said she heard shots just before midnight.

She said she walked outside and heard two distinctive shots go off.

The woman said she rung police and was told there was a break and enter in the area.

There have been other reports but The Bulletin has yet to confirm any details with police.
