Representative player to give back through junior coaching

COACH'S CORNER:

JACINTA Keogh is the new coach of the Warwick 10/11 years netball team to play in the Darling Downs Inter-district League.

She has not been an official coach in the past but has been co-captain of teams in Warwick open fixtures.

In many club competitions, the captains and team organisers fulfil the role of coach.

Keogh will coach the 10/11 years team in the five inter-district rounds.

"My main aim with girls aged 10 and 11 is to improve their basic skills,” Keogh said.

"I want to improve skills and give them the chance to play higher-standard games at a representative level.

"A lot of my work will be on delivering strong straight passes and using as little air as possible when passing.”

Keogh said she would be working hard on teaching the girls positional play on court, but wanted her team to enjoy themselves.

"We have 12 players trying out for nine positions in the 10/11 years team this Saturday morning as a forerunner to Saturday afternoon junior fixtures.

"I have decided to be a representative coach this season as I am a current Monday night fixture player and past representative player for Warwick and Toowoomba and want to put something back in the game,” she said.
