Reps seek Downs win
AFTER making the Darling Downs primary school 11-years netball team last year, Dimity Brackin and Meg Eastwell want to make the regional 12-years team this year.
The pair are in the Southern Downs 12-years team to compete in the Darling Downs trials at Nell E Robinson Park, Toowoomba, on Sunday and Monday.
Dimity, who plays as a shooter, said while they didn’t win a game in the carnival at Caloundra last year, it was great fun.
A centre, Meg said she was keen to make the regional team again this year.
Jordi Ryan is another player keen to make the Darling Downs 12-years side.
“I prefer defence but also play a bit at shooter,” Jordi said.
“Half our team also plays in the Warwick under-12 representative team.
Jess Lawson was proud to say before training on Wednesday that she made the Southern Downs team without playing club netball.
She impressed selectors at the trials as 70 girls tried out for 12 and 11-year teams last week.
The two teams have their fourth and final training sessions at Barnes Park today before heading to the regional trials on Sunday and Monday.
Co-coach Angela Washbourne said the girls had shown impressive skills and a lot of ability.
“It was hard to select the two teams at the trials,” Washbourne said.
The regional 12-year team competes in the state championships on June 19-22 and the 11-year team at a one-day carnival at Ipswich on July 11.
