Research is safe: McVeigh
AGRICULTURE Minister John McVeigh has again emphatically denied any plans to move the barley breeding program from the Hermitage Research Station.
His statements come in the wake of ongoing confusion in the industry about the future of the station and its employees.
"I have no plans to move the barley research program from Hermitage," he said.
Mr McVeigh yesterday insisted he had no intention to move the program, or any other state-based research, out of Queensland.
"I am currently setting up a new Department of Agriculture and I am the Minister accountable and I make the decision," he said.
"Anyone discussing the closure of the grains research program needs to calm down and realise we now have a new LNP Government which is focused on improving frontline services, including research and extension to all farmers."
