Home owners urged to find out zone

SOUTHERN Downs residents are being urged to offer their input into the proposed new Southern Downs Planning Scheme, which is currently open for public scrutiny.

The closing date for submissions is just a month away, with the closing date set at September 16.

Under the proposed new scheme there are now three different residential zones applying across the whole region.

Based on the types of lifestyles people can expect in the zone, the new residential zones are Residential Living, Residential Choice and Rural Residential.

Property owners are urged to have a look to see what zone their property is under.

Strategic planning manager Jeanette Davis said now was the time to make submissions.

“It's not too late to make a submission to council to change the planning scheme,” she said.

“All comments on the scheme will be welcomed and carefully considered by council before the final planning scheme is adopted.”

The submission period closes on Friday, September 16 and it is important submissions are received by council by that date.

To find out what residential zone you are in, visit www.southerndowns.qld.gov.au/nps/.

This site also has information about the planning scheme including studies and results of the earlier consultation about the scheme.

A copy of the planning scheme is also available at the council offices in Warwick and Stanthorpe, and there are opportunities to meet with council's strategic planning manager.

Council recommends making an appointment due to the high level of interest in the planning scheme.
