Residents concerned over rising water rates

RESIDENTS on the Southern Downs have received their rates notices this week.

Allora residents have expressed concern over a new water charge which has effectively doubled their rates from last year, claiming further rises are unsustainable for many in the town.

A rate rise of 4% has been incurred by ratepayers, in line with the Southern Downs Regional Council long-term financial forecast.

Residents have until August 12 to make an upfront payment, with a two-installment plan also possible for all ratepayers.
