Residents look for ways to beat heat
WHILE the last few days haven't quite qualified as a heatwave, there is no doubt the mercury has been hitting high enough temperatures to have Rose City residents looking to cool off.
The Bureau of Meteorology said heat warnings were only activated after two days in a row of 36 degrees or more, with two days of 40 degrees or more qualifying as a heatwave.
Queensland Health recommends the following ways to control heat stress; drink enough fluids, avoid dehydrating drinks like caffeine, alcohol, drinks with high sugar levels, minimise physical activity, stay out of the sun when the UV and heat is the strongest between 10am and 3pm, check aged family, friends and neighbours, open windows and use fans, stay indoors and seek an air-conditioned environment, ensure young children have enough fluids and dress them in cool clothing.
