Residents warned of another week of high temps

THE Southern Downs is bracing for another week of sweltering conditions with the mercury set to top 41 degrees by Friday.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Rosa Hoff said that low intensity heatwave conditions were expected for the coming days.

“We’re expecting these low intensity conditions to ease back to no heatwave conditions by the middle of the week,” Miss Hoff said.

“And then creep back toward low intensity on Friday, but at the moment it’s not conclusive enough to sustain those conditions by the end of the week.”

While high temperatures have been forecast, Miss Hoff said it was difficult to determine whether it would be record breaking conditions.

“In terms of around the south west, we’re expecting it to be around 10 degrees above average across the Darling Downs tomorrow,” she said.

“Previously, we have hit 40 degrees in Warwick in December before.

“However the temperatures as warm as what we have tomorrow will put some pressure on the records.”

Despite the hot conditions, Miss Hoff said it was unlikely that the region would see any rainfall.

“These hot and dry conditions are keeping the rain at bay,” she said.

“There is a small chance of a little bit of rain activity but that would mostly be to the east of Warwick.”
