Retired Shield cricketers set to play at Maryvale in June
CRICKET: Three retired Sheffield Shield cricketers will line up for the Lew Cooper’s XI against Maryvale in the annual cricket match at Maryvale on June 4.
Cooper is a retired Queensland keeper and will have three shield players in his side, captain Mark Gaskell and all-rounders Scott Prestwidge and Brett Hentschel. Mark’s son Dustin, a former Brisbane A-grade batsman, will play.
The annual game at Maryvale has been played for the past two years. The first game raised a five-figure sum to help Angus Bowles and his family head to America for life-changing surgery and last year Akooramak was the beneficiary.
There won’t be a Saturday night dinner this year but the cricket will lose none of its intensity.
Lew Cooper’s XI: Mark Gaskell, Dustin Gaskell, David Lyons snr, David Lyons, Jack Prestwidge, Scott Prestwidge, Will Prestwidge, Georgina Prestwidge, Lee Watts, Sam Turvey, Victor Schumlin, Peter ‘Buddy’ Holey, Brett Hentschel.
